In his campaign for presidency, Donald Trump repeatedly promised to cancel the Common Core standards (CCS) that former president Obama introduced in order make sure that kids receive comparable knowledge and skills throughout the United States of America.

In fact, he recently issued an executive order that instructs Education Secretary Betsy DeVos and a team of department employees to analyze the regulations that came along with the Common Core standards. This way, Trump aims for breaches in the CCS guide to correct them in favor of the states. Supporters of this idea welcome the president’s order since the influence of the federal government of the U.S. on local schools is considered unwanted by many conservatives.

Critics assume that the decision of president Trump will not result in significant improvements of the education system. Catherine Brown from of the Center for American Progress claims: “[…]I feel like it’s purely symbolic. I think he’s just trying to get as many executive orders before the first 100 days so he could claim it as credit.”
